For many women, the secret to smooth, shiny hair, with no frizz in sight, is the infamous ‘keratin treatment’. And, here at Carmen Walker Hair we are excited to announce we have now introduced this high quality straightening treatment to our services!

The Keratin treatment is completely chemical-free. Keratin treatments have become an umbrella term for any hair-smoothing process that softens curls and waves, reduces frizz, and makes styling must faster and enjoyable for many months. So, in this blog we’ll be highlighting some questions you may have about the Keratin Treatment/System we use at Carmen Walker Hair.

What is a Keratin treatment?

A keratin treatment is a process that smoothes, removes frizz, improves colour and adds shine. These results can last up to six months. The Keratin Treatment is designed to work with most hair types but is great for those with thick, frizzy hair. This restorative treatment acts differently to chemical straightening. This treatment does not break the protein bonds within the hair strands like chemical straightening can do. Instead it maintains the hair bonds and creates smoother, healthier hair.

How does it work?

Put simply, keratin treatments dive into the hair follicle and injects porous areas with NanoSmooth particles, which contain an essential hair protein, often lost due to age and environmental factors (such as thermal damage). These NanoSmooth particles are a one-stop super solution for all our hair woes!

Firstly, they attach themselves to the hair structure and enable your hair to recuperate itself; reconstructing the inner and outer foundations of your hair strands. This allows for safe and complete smoothing which reduces friction, and therefore tangling between strands.

Additionally, these superhero Nanosmooth particles form an outer layer that insulates the hair fibre against damaging environmental factors such as: humidity, salt water, UV rays, heat etc. This allows the hair to be in a hydrophobic(water-repellant) state, which minimises water and dirt adhesion.

You will also notice, after your keratin treatment, an intensity in your hairs colour and shine. The NanoSmooth particles attach themselves to the pigments in hair and act as light reflectors, resulting in natural beaming hair.

What IS THE PROCESS?

There are 12 Steps to the Keratin treatment below is the process;

Step 1: Hair is Shampooed 2 times with a purifying shampoo

Step 2: Blow dry the hair so its 100% Dry

Is it damaging to your hair?

This treatment service is completely chemical free and unlike chemical straightening processes, such as relaxers and texturizers, keratin treatments are temporary and wash out after a few months as they do not alter the chemical composition of your hair.

HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?

The crucial rule of keratin treatments is to stay away from water and ponytails for at least three days. You don't want to risk creating a bend in your newly-straightened hair. The key to maintaining your treatment for as long as possible is using a sulfate-free shampoo on wash days.

Wrap your hair in a silk or satin scarf (or pillowcase) to keep the moisture locked in your hair as the treatment can cause your hair to dry out faster. The Keratin treatment can last up to six months.

who can have a keratin treatment?

This treatment is suitable for all hair types and a great option for anyone who wants to reduce frizz or straighten their hair, without incurring any chemical damage.

Can i have this treatment and a colour done during the same appointment?

Yes, during the Keratin Treatment you can also conduct a colour process this will start at step 10. (WHAT IS THE PROCESS)

cAN I HAVE THIS TREATMENT IF I’VE ALREADY HAD A chemical straightening RELAXER IN THE PAST?

Yes, If you’re looking to move away from chemical relaxers, but still want increased manageability, the Keratin Treatment can be used on hair that has had chemical treatment on it in the past.

How long does this treatment take?

This treatment process can take between 3-4 hours, depending on the length and thickness of the hair.

The great thing about getting a keratin treatment is that it washes out of your hair, it doesn’t require a grow out, this means you don’t need to worry about your roots coming in frizzy, and instead, you can focus on maintaining your treatment.

How much does this treatment cost?

The cost of the Keratin Treatment begins from £150, but once again, varies depending on length and thickness of hair.

You could have a full keratin treatment or opt for the One Step keratin treatment: a quick treatment that take 1.30mins and begins from £60
